Guide for Returning Candidates
Retaking an assessment? Read our guide to measure your past performance and improve your re-assessment results. We’ve prepared the resources you need to succeed below
Step 1: Learn what you need to do/bring for assessment day
Don’t rush into registering for your re-assessment! Though a poor grade can sting, it’s important to take time to reflect on your previous assessment/s, and assess what went well vs. what didn’t.
Think back about your pre-assessment study strategies. What parts of your preparation worked, and what did not work?
Write down your observations, and plan out how you can improve your preparation for your reassessment, as well as how much time you will need to adequately prepare the next time around.
- What questions did you find difficult or confusing?
- If given a chance, do you think you would be able to respond to the question better?

How can I prepare sufficiently for the competency assessments?
As with all exams, you should ensure that you have adequate rest the day before. During the assessment, take breaks in between papers (if you are taking more than one) to minimise fatigue.
At the very least, you should have read through the preparatory guides for the Papers that you are sitting for, in order to get a better understanding of the question formats.
Check the paper’s time limit before beginning to ensure that you have adequate time to complete each section. If you are taking the assessment remotely, check and mitigate technical problems or distractions the night before to minimise disruption during the assessment.

I failed the assessments. Can I have a copy of my responses to see what I got wrong?
Unfortunately, this isn’t possible. IHRP does not release its questions for test security purposes. However, you can refer to the past year questions to help you in preparing for your re-assessment.
